December 1, 2011 - 3:29 pm - One of my favorite traditions is getting a Christmas tree together. I always take tons of photos and love looking back over the years at how my children have grown and changed.
December 1, 2011 - 3:33 pm - What a fantastic-ly fun way to spread the love! One of our favorite holiday traditions was inspired by YOU! We have a "Thanksgiving Tree" that we fill each year. Thank you for being such a beautiful inspiration!
December 1, 2011 - 4:01 pm - My favorite family tradition is the gift our family gives to the Savior. We have a little silver box that we place under the tree for him. Each member of the family takes a turn writing down a gift that they will give him. It may be a promise made, a challenge to to do better or a commitment to be more like him. On Christmas day, we open the box to see if we have truly followed through in giving the gift we promised. We then write down another gift and place it in the box...to be opened the following year on Christmas day. It's fun to see how the children take this to heart and make a conserted effort to follow through on their promise or "gift" they made. As for me, it helps me grow closer to my Savior as I keep him in my heart and mind not only on Christmas day, but throughout every day of the year.
December 1, 2011 - 4:35 pm - hi sandi! thank you for this opportunity...now that i have a little girl i am loving matilda jane...:-) i love to decorate the tree, we do two, an "adult" tree and a "kid" tree..it has been fun this year to put a little pink on the kiddo tree along with all the fun homemade things from the past.
December 1, 2011 - 5:11 pm - Every year we get together with my husband's family and we have what we call a "Sheperd's Dinner." We have all the children act out the Nativity and then we gather on blankets on the floor and eat a more modern version of what they would have eaten back then, pita bread, meats, cheeses, veggies & fruits. It's always an wonderful way to set the tone for the Christmas season and an awesome way to spend time together as a family.
December 1, 2011 - 8:31 pm - So fun! Every Christmas Eve we get together with Larry's sister and family. She pulls out a fabulous box of costumes, enough for every character in the Nativity, and we dress all the cousins, and occasionally an unsuspecting guest. :) They all act out the nativity and we all sing Christmas Hymns. I'm so grateful for this special way to always remember our Savior during what can be a hectic season!
December 2, 2011 - 1:22 am - Oh, I am so excited about this!!! I LOVED the sweet gift we got from them last year and between medical bills and saving up for a wheel chair van we just can't go shopping. So, my favortie memory... there are just too many to pick from.... Christmas Eve is always at our home. We pile as many people as we can into our tiny place {I love it!}. We dress up and read /act out the birth of Christ. Later a special visitor, santa, comes to give the kids each a special gift {a new pair of PJs.}. Another favorite is every year we find a family to adopt a family and "secret santa" them. We want to make sure that Regan knows that it is more important to give than to recieve. OH, I just LOVE christmas!
December 2, 2011 - 12:13 pm - I think my favorite holiday tradition has to be opening up the boxes of decorations and watching my kids ooh and ahh about each one. You can just feel the magic and the excitement of this time of year! Yay for Matilda Jane!
December 2, 2011 - 4:05 pm - My little girls are 1 and 2 so traditions are just beginning for us. But driving around looking at Christmas lights and hearing their ooohhsss and aawwwhhss out of the back seat hhas been so much fun.
December 2, 2011 - 4:07 pm - My favorite holiday tradition is going to the Chrismas Eve candle light service at church and then going over to my parents house to celebrate with the whole family.
December 2, 2011 - 4:54 pm - One of my favorite traditions is baking Christmas cookies as a family and letting the kids decorate them however they want! I don't care how big of a mess we make, or how much time it takes, we let them do it however they want!
December 2, 2011 - 5:03 pm - One of my favorite traditions is giving my kids' their Christmas pajamas to unwrap Christmas Eve. We then make hot cocoa and sit together on the couch to read The Christmas Story from the Bible. It reminds us of the reason we celebrate!
December 2, 2011 - 5:08 pm - One of our favorite holiday traditions is to drive all around town and look at all the Christmas lanes in my hometown. There are over 30 themed lanes and it is just so much fun! I loved doing this as a child and now I get to share this tradition with my daughter - I feel like I get to relive the magic all over again through her eyes! Merry Christmas!
December 2, 2011 - 5:40 pm - Every year we donate to the Elderly home here. We bring cookies and presents (blankets, slippers, robes, games and of course suckers) . My kids love it and so do they :) Thanks for spreading the Love!!!
December 2, 2011 - 5:43 pm - My favorite tradition is our Elf On The Shelf. We just started it this year and I am having so much fun with it. My daughter loves to find him in the morning and see what he has been up to.
December 2, 2011 - 6:51 pm - We love to drive around and look at all the beautiful decorations while playing Christmas songs.
December 2, 2011 - 7:12 pm - One of my favorite holiday traditions is playing "Secret Santa". Growing up my family would choose some families that were in need and make Christmas possible for them. My parents knew ahead of time the ages, sizes, needs and wishes of the children and parents of the families and we would help in buying and wrapping the gifts and buy groceries for them to make a big dinner on Christmas Day. The delivery was not complete without my Mother's beautiful homemade English Triffle for dessert. Early in the evening on Christmas Eve, we would all pile in the car and drive to the homes of the families to make our special deliveries. One of the most exciting things I remember was the fact that we didn't tell anyone and tried to keep it totally anonymous. The feeling of bringing hope and happiness to someone else was better than opening up all of the presents that would be awaiting us children on Christmas morning. This is a tradition we have carried on with our own children and it has become some of their best memories of Christmas too!
December 2, 2011 - 8:04 pm - Love Christmas Eve!! First is Christmas Eve service at church. We usually attend 2 services - the 4:30 service is all about the kids with the Christmas Pageant. Then we go to Grandma's for dinner and Christmas cookies and open 1 gift (new Christmas PJs). Then is the midnight service. That service is all music and at the end we turn out all the lights - light candles and sing Silent Night... now it is Christmas.
December 2, 2011 - 9:29 pm - My favorite holiday tradition is the Elf on the Shelf. I have never seen my children so excited to get up each morning. It starts each day of the season with a bit of fun and laughter.
December 2, 2011 - 9:46 pm - Making Christmas cookies with my DD's.
December 2, 2011 - 10:34 pm - By far my fav tradition is making monkey bread at the crack of dawn on Christmas morning! It makes sure I am the first one up in the morning so that it is hot and bubbly by the time everyone else wakes up and I never miss the looks on my kids faces as they come down the stairs!
December 2, 2011 - 10:36 pm - I would live to win a dress for ava's friend- her daddy up and left one day- and a few weeks later she was diagnosed with jeuvenille diabetes. She has been fitted with an insulin pump now- but things are hard for her all around- her big sister (4th grader)has been so depressed about her little sister. We were using the the youngest jonas brother as an example of how kids can live with diabetes. She came to a show I had awhile back and loved all the skirts- but they just can't afford it.
December 2, 2011 - 10:39 pm - Its funny you mention this, my wife and i had a spat about this. i grew up with the tradition of watching "Its a wonderful life" on christmas eve. She HATES old movies, but i told her i have done it every year, even all three times i was deployed to iraq. i told her this year, i am making her watch it!
December 2, 2011 - 11:22 pm - We didn't have traditions growing up, so I'm starting them with my children,! My favorites are funny christmas themed hats/headbands on Christmas Eve and the Elf on the Shelf. :)
December 2, 2011 - 11:28 pm - We just started doing elf on the shelf and my daughter loves that:) I like all the holiday crafts and decorating
December 3, 2011 - 12:13 am - My family and I always go to Disney! We enjoy all the holiday cheer. The kids always get so excited when we go, because they love all of the decorations. On Christmas Eve we always make reindeer food, and bake special Santa cookies. We love having family time, since we are all normally so busy! :0)
December 3, 2011 - 12:25 am - Going to the candlelight Christmas Eve service at church and then eating a nice dinner with my family.
December 3, 2011 - 12:29 am - Of course we always make as many trips as we can to see Santa whether the kids sit in his lap or just a wave...... then we let our children open one present on Christmas eve as I done as a child.
December 3, 2011 - 1:27 am - My favorite Christmas tradition is decorating the tree, of course! Mine is filled with ornaments that I've collected my whole life and now I'm adding new ones for my husband and daughter each year. Every time I pull out a new ornament to hang, I'm flooded with memories of the Christmases I've enjoyed in the past with my wonderful family and the new memories I'm making with my sweet little girl. Some of the ornaments are a little tacky and maybe are holding on by a thread, but they make my tree so special. I LOVE my tree and look forward to it lighting up our home the entire month of December.
December 3, 2011 - 2:14 am - My favorite tradition is the 10 days leading up to Christmas. We have a huge advent calendar that has activities for the 10 days leading up to Christmas. We do things such as coaroling, looking at lights making cookies, visiting a stable and Christmas crafts. My kids get so excited to see what that nights activity will be. It is a great family time and holds great memories for me :)
December 3, 2011 - 2:34 am - Stockings!! This was always one of my favorite things...all the little presents to open! I'm 35 now and my mom still fills the same stocking to the hilt for me! :) I do have to travel 18 hours to get to it. ;) Also, It's a Wonderful Life...this is the first year my dd will watch it with us. Thanks!!
December 3, 2011 - 2:44 am - So fun! My favorite holiday tradition is spending Christmas Eve at my Grandparents house each year... it doesn't feel like Christmas without it! I love watching the kids dress up and act out the Nativity scene and being surrounded by all my family members that I adore.
December 3, 2011 - 5:14 am - Making handmade holiday hairbows...one for each of the 25 days of christmas!
December 3, 2011 - 11:33 am - When I was young, we would go to my grandparents house on Christmas Eve with all of the other aunts, uncles and cousins and have dinner, then get dressed in our costumes and act out the nativity. One of my uncles would narrate it and the rest of us would sing the songs that went along with it. The newest baby born would be baby Jesus. Afterwards, we would all get in our cars and caravan around to different houses of old friends and Christmas carol. We were a big group, at least 40 people back then. It wasn't just a tradition for us, but became a tradition for the people that we caroled to as they would anticipate our arrival every Christmas Eve. Now that I am older, we still get together on Christmas Eve to do the nativity although the group is much larger with many more grandkids and great-grandkids.
December 3, 2011 - 5:09 pm - With my children we started Elf on The Shelf. It has been so much fun. They were so anxious for Ellie's arrival this year. It is something I am looking forward to doing for many years.
December 3, 2011 - 5:13 pm - My favorite tradition is going to my mother-in-laws house with all the grandkids and making Christmas cookies. We started it when my oldest was a baby and this was the eighth year. The kids always love getting their turn with the mixer. :)
December 3, 2011 - 8:12 pm - My current tradition is with my friends....we have a friendmas. instead of buying each other gifts...we take 1 night and we go out to dinner all together. we laugh and have so much fun and is such a wonderful way to connect and so much better than any monetary gift!
December 3, 2011 - 9:04 pm - One of our favorite family traditions is buying presents for the giving trees. My 2 oldest love picking out presents for others and I love seeing they have such giving hearts!
December 3, 2011 - 9:17 pm - Going to my moms on Christmas Eve morning for breakfast, we all go in our jammies and spend the whole day, then go to church. Hope my kids will do the same with me when they get older.
December 3, 2011 - 10:30 pm - My favourite Christmas tradition has always been going to my Aunts house on Christmas Eve, and getting to put baby Jesus in the manger after midnight mass. It has always been a profound reminder of what the season is truly about.
December 3, 2011 - 10:41 pm - My favorite tradition is doing an activity a day to countdown to Christmas with my kids and opening up PJ's on Christmas eve to wear to sleep so we all wake up in our new Christmas jammies to open gifts.
December 3, 2011 - 11:36 pm - building a snowman on Christmas day, as long as there is snow to make one....and than afterwards coming in the house to have some hot chocolate as a family
December 4, 2011 - 12:24 am - Making Christmas cookies for sure!!! We all make such a mess in the kitchen having such a good time baking and decorating Christmas cookies. Who can resist little faces covered in flour, especially at this time of year?
December 4, 2011 - 12:48 am - I love driving around the neighborhod with the littles and looking at Christmas lights. We pack up hot cocoa and cookies to drink and eat along the way.
December 4, 2011 - 10:34 am - We do an ornament exchange with my daughters' girl scout troops. The kids love to pick out a special ornament for the swap, and then they have a fun party together.
December 4, 2011 - 11:53 am - One of my favorite holiday traditions is go to a friend's house (someone different every year) and help decorate their christmas tree. I love that I can now take along my own daughter with me and teach her the importance of learning about and accepting all religions
December 4, 2011 - 12:37 pm - We are still making traditions, but so far one of our favorites is to drive around and see all the Christmas lights around the neighborhood as well as a local park. We have Christmas music playing in the car. Our daughter loves seeing all the lights and it gets us in right mood for the holidays.
December 4, 2011 - 4:25 pm - My favorite holiday tradition is putting on our new "Christmas jammies" and reading 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, on Christmas eve with my husband and two daughters. Brings back fond memories of doing the same with my parents when I was a kiddo.
December 4, 2011 - 5:20 pm - My favorite Christmas tradition is Christmas Eve service with my family and driving through the local Christmas lights display here.
December 5, 2011 - 2:30 am - My favorite tradition we have done with our three kids, is the birthday party for baby Jesus that our church puts on every year. The kids all bring a new toy to donate and they enjoy singing, crafts, live nativity, and birthday cake for Jesus. It helps take time out of the busy season and really focus on what it's all about!
December 5, 2011 - 2:02 pm - Every year our family makes Norwegian Fattigmann Cookie's. It has been passed down from generation to generation for over 150 years. We love to sprinkle them with powder sugar and eat them with Hot Chocolate! And we LOVE to give them to our friends and neighbors every year too!

December 5, 2011 - 6:40 pm - My favorite Holiday tradition has to be picking out our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. It really make the spirit of Chrismas set in when we are all together searching for that "perfect" tree!
December 5, 2011 - 7:22 pm - Through the years one of the most fun things I did with my children (now grown) was to have some of their friends over and decorate gingerbread houses that were made of graham crackers. A friend shared the directions with me more than 30 years ago. Both of my children baby sat for a family and we made the houses with the children they babysat. These children are now grown but their mother always mentions in her card to me the memory of this activity. I would so enjoy giving Matilda Jane dresses to others and seeing their smiles!!!
December 5, 2011 - 8:01 pm - When my sister and I were little, my mother every Christmas would make us Christmas pajamas to wear on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning while opening our gifts. This tradition followed us through college. Now that my sister and I have our own children, we asked our mother if she would continue this tradition with our children as it meant so much to us when we were younger. God Bless my mother she now has five( soon to be six) grandchildren to make pajamas for every year. But you know what, it is something our kids ,even though they are very young, look forward to!
December 5, 2011 - 9:36 pm - Already a newsletter subscriber. Tradition- I'm really loving the elf on the shelf- I have a blast watching my kids search for him every morning. My six year old invited our elf, Binny Timber, to his February birthday party last year, and, what do you know? HE CAME! total highlight of the party for Finn. The look on his face was priceless!

December 5, 2011 - 11:25 pm - My favorite tradition is simple and I'm sure lots of families do it, but I love picking a couple angels from the angel tree. Seriously, nothing feels better than knowing that you can make a kids Christmas. I have to say, it feels great to go overboard a little and know that it is appreciated so much!

As far as holiday traditions go, I think my favorite thing to do with the kids during Hanukkah is the lighting of the candles each of the 8 nights. It's just a magical, beautiful time with my 4 precious kids and my incredible husband/best friend. Thank you for hosting such a wonderful giveaway, and happy holidays to all!!!
December 7, 2011 - 2:52 am - My favorite tradition from the Christmas season started with a brilliant idea of my mom's more than 20 years ago. My mom hated all the build up and anticipation for Christmas and then having it end quickly in a pile of unwrapped presents. Her tradition was to get one "true surprise present" for everyone- something that we did not ask for or expect and save it to open on Christmas evening before we all went to bed. She came up with some pretty fantastic, thoughtful, and personalized gifts and I loved watching my brother, sister, and dad open their gifts. Everyone's face lit up! My mom is amazing!
December 7, 2011 - 2:53 am - I have a couple of friends who adore Olivia's MJ clothing and would be thrilled and touched if gifted with their own gorgeous dress! Denise is so thoughtful and amazing!

December 7, 2011 - 9:20 pm - What makes me happiest this time of year is waking up with butterflies in my stomach as my 3 children run upstairs just as I did as a little girl to see what Santa has brought and then playing all day with them.
December 7, 2011 - 9:39 pm - My favorite family tradition starts Dec. 1. We have 24 Christmas theme books that we wrap. My daughter and son then get to open one each night and that's our bedtime story. We always make sure the last book is the 'Night Before Christmas.
December 7, 2011 - 9:45 pm - When we were little my parents would put up a giant sheet over the doorway to the family room where the Christmas tree was. I can remember waking up and having to stand and yell for my parents to wake up because their bedroom was off of the family room and amazingly enough my brother and I never peeked (they must have scared us enough not to peek!) After they woke up they would come into the kitchen and make us eat breakfast and then open out stockings all before even being able to see what Santa had left for us! It sounds silly but it made Christmas morning so much fun. I can remember even when my brother and I were in college us asking Mom and Dad to put the sheet up for Christmas morning and getting mad when they said no!
December 7, 2011 - 10:35 pm - One of our favorite traditions is decorating the Christmas tree and then taking a picture of the children in front of the tree. I love seeing how the kids change every year.
December 7, 2011 - 10:40 pm - Favorite traditions - decoratig the tree with my kids and one of my BFF's kids - I buy the 2 boys and 2 girls matching PJ's. Baking cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve. Going to a local huge garden to see the 12 days of Christmas in lights. Appys with both mine and my husbands family. Driving around to see the Christmas lights with hot chocolate.
December 7, 2011 - 10:58 pm - I receive the MJC newsletter!
December 7, 2011 - 10:59 pm - I liked the Sand Bucket magazine on facebook!
December 7, 2011 - 11:02 pm - Growing up, my twin sister and I always put on elaborate make-shift Christmas programs on Christmas Eve...we'd sing and dance and recite poems and giggled our way through it all...now we are helping our children to stage such pageants for our family this year!
December 7, 2011 - 11:07 pm - Our favorite tradition is making gingerbread houses a few weeks before Christmas. This year we made two plus some trees and gingerbread people.
December 7, 2011 - 11:11 pm - My favorite Christmas tradition is our Christmas Eve dinner in which we still make the traditional Italian seven fish dinner. We still use the recipes my great grandma brought with her from Italy nearly 100 years ago.
December 7, 2011 - 11:38 pm - one of my favorite christmas traditions is watching all the christmas specials with my littles.....my favorite that makes me cry everytime is nester the christmas donkey!!
December 7, 2011 - 11:46 pm - Love getting my 2 best friends and our kids together to make Chrismas cookies. It is a crazy mess with our combined 10 kids but so worth it!
December 8, 2011 - 12:27 am - Sharing Christmas Eve with our friends/family caroling and Santa appearing every year at my sister's home is one of my favorite holiday traditions.
December 8, 2011 - 2:08 am - My favorite Christmas tradition is making hallacas with my family. Hallacas are a traditional Venezuelan food around Christmas time. Making hallacas is quite a production. We would set up an assembly line and put on gaitas (popular folk music from Venezuela and we would dance as we worked, we always had a blast but what I loved the most was being my mom’s little helper.
December 8, 2011 - 11:02 pm - Mine is having everyone over at our house! And we all get to open one present the night before!
December 9, 2011 - 2:38 am - One of my favorite traditions is collecting books all year and then wrapping one each day of December and having the kids hunt them via clues in our advent calendar. They usually work together because they know that it is not a competition. I am totally in the giving mood. One of my VERY good friends loves MJC and she is volunteering her time away from her babies to go to Disney World, make a wish, with another of our friends daughter who has a brain tumor to take pictures so the family has some lifetime memories. So proud of her!
